We’ve all seen the imagery – the man in tattered clothing, crawling through the hot sand, gasping for water while vultures circle overhead.

And while that scene may be over-dramatized, every financial wholesaler can relate to the extremes of the summer scorch, where you are left searching for anything to sustain you in the wasteland of vacation season. 

With the right survival tactics, though, you can come out on the other side of summer in better shape than you entered. Here’s how. 

Ignore the Mirage

Glimpses of oases, a shimmering pool in the distance...it’s easy to be drawn in by hallucinations. But hanging your sunhat on the “Let’s revisit this in a month,” responses lead to nothing but a mouthful of sand.

Focus, instead, on your most responsive clients. Casual check-ins are great ways to keep your name and product at the top of their mind. 

Energy Conservation

Like a cheetah that sleeps through the heat of the day and hunts in the cool of night, sometimes the smartest move is to time your actions for when conditions are just right. The heat of the summer slowdown is not a productive time to chase down prey leads. 

Try strategies like time-blocking and strategic re-messaging. Map out your rotation for the inevitable Q3 uptick and consider long-term planning. Use the sweltering temps to focus on indoor activities that will lead to greater wins when the sun starts to set. 

Stinger Sidestep

Scorpions and armadillos and tarantulas – oh my! These guys are tough creatures and have adapted to the pain of the summer months. Their advisor counterparts are equally elusive, leaving you with the sting of being rescheduled or worse…ghosted.

Don’t take it personally. Let them have their last-minute lake trip or their “it’s five o’clock somewhere” Friday afternoon. Sales and relationships are long games, and the good ones thrive on the ability to adapt to last-minute changes. 

The summer swelter doesn’t have to mean famine. When you focus on reality, conserve your energy, and take the slower pace as it comes, you can thrive in the more barren and dry conditions.
