Episode 4: Lessons from 37 Years of Wholesaling & The Five F’sMitch:
Hey, friends, welcome back to the Financial Wholesaler Podcast. I'm your host, Mitch Santala, and today we have a very special episode with a very special guest. This one’s going to be good, so grab your coffee, your notepad, or your walking shoes if you're tuning in while on the move.Mark:
Thank you, Mitch. Appreciate being here.Mitch:
Mark Warren is here with us today. Now, if you’ve been in this business long enough, you’ve heard Mark’s name. He’s the kind of wholesaler that others in the industry point to as the example — someone who did it right for nearly 40 years. That’s why we wanted to sit down with him and talk about what it means to finish strong and lead a meaningful career.Mark:
I’m honored to be part of it, Mitch. It’s always fun to reflect and share a few things that might help the next generation coming up.Mitch:
Well, you’re known for a few things — consistency, integrity, relationship building. But I want to talk about the framework you use: the 5 F’s. Can you break those down for us?Mark:
Absolutely. The 5 F’s are: Faith, Family, Fellowship, Fitness, and Finances. It’s really a values-based framework that I’ve used throughout my career to help keep things in perspective.Mitch:
Let’s go one by one. Start with Faith.Mark:
Faith is foundational. For me, it’s about believing in something greater than yourself. It’s a guiding compass. It gave me strength when times were tough and kept me grounded when things were good.Mitch:
And Family?Mark:
Family comes right after faith. They’re your support system, your why. If you neglect your family in pursuit of career success, it eventually catches up with you. My wife and I will be celebrating 44 years this year. We’ve made it through some tough patches by sticking together and keeping each other the priority.Mitch:
That’s amazing. What about Friends?Mark:
Friends are the ones who keep you sane in this business. It’s a grind, and you need people who understand what you’re going through. Not just colleagues, but true friends — people who care about you beyond your numbers.Mitch:
Fitness made the list too — tell us about that.Mark:
Fitness is huge. This career can be hard on your health. All the travel, all the eating out. You have to find time to move, to take care of your body. I’m 68 now and I still hit the gym a few times a week. It keeps my mind sharp, too.Mitch:
And finally, Finances.Mark:
Yes — you can make a lot of money in this business, but it’s easy to spend just as much. You have to be a good steward. I always treated my commissions like a gift. Live below your means, save, and give generously.Mitch:
That’s such solid advice. If someone listening is early in their career, what’s one thing you wish you had known sooner?Mark:
Don’t chase the title or the paycheck. Chase the impact. Be the rep that people can count on. The rest will follow.Mitch:
So good. Before we wrap, any final words?Mark:
Just gratitude. This career has blessed me and my family beyond measure. I’m thankful to have finished strong and to pass on what I’ve learned.Mitch:
Mark, thank you. Truly. Your story is inspiring and I know a lot of people are going to walk away from this episode encouraged and challenged in the best way.Mark:
Thanks, Mitch.
